They Showed Up All Summer. Here's What Happened.
How the Bombers King 14U team turned three months of consistent work at SPI into measurable gains across the board.
Every summer, athletes make a choice...
Take a break.
Some "stay active."
Some show up every week and put in the work while nobody's watching.
This summer, the entire Bombers King 14U team chose the third option.

On June 1, we put the team through a full athletic assessment at Strength & Performance Institute here in Clearwater: vertical jump, broad jump, reactive strength, ground contact time, grip strength, and push-ups. Then we built them a strength-and-conditioning program and got to work. Week after week, all summer long.
On September 2, we tested them again. The results speak for themselves.
The Numbers: A Whole Team, Better Across the Board

Team-average change for the nine athletes who completed both assessments.
The Data Doesn't Lie. Here's What Stands Out:
Reactive strength jumped 25%. RSI measures how quickly and forcefully an athlete can absorb force and explode back off the ground. It powers first-step quickness, change of direction, and the pop you see in elite athletes. Eight of nine athletes improved.
Every single athlete got stronger. All 9 athletes improved grip strength, a 14% team-average gain. Grip is a reliable window into overall strength, and it matters for throwing, swinging, and catching.
Jumps went up. The team added an average of 2 inches to their vertical jump and 5.6 inches to their broad jump. One athlete added 10.5 inches to her broad jump. Another added more than 4 inches to her vertical.
They got quicker off the ground. Average ground contact time dropped 12%, meaning less time stuck on the ground and more time moving.
Upper body strength climbed. Team-average push-ups rose 17%, with one athlete adding 11 reps in three months.

Across all seven tests, the nine athletes who completed both testing days improved on 48 of 63 individual tests.
No Shortcuts. Just Showing Up.
There was no secret here. No gimmick, no supplement, no magic drill. These athletes did something simple that most people won't: they showed up consistently and did the work, week after week, through the heat of a Florida summer.
That's what athletic development actually looks like. Not one big breakthrough, but many small sessions that stack until, three months later, a whole team jumps higher, moves faster, and competes stronger.
And here's what matters for parents: these gains didn't come from playing more games, showing up to more practices, or attending skill clinics. They came from building the athlete underneath the sport.
How SPI's Strength, Speed & Agility Classes Work
Our Strength, Speed & Agility (SS&A) program is a small-group strength and conditioning program built specifically for student-athletes. It's not a public gym or corporate franchise chasing KPI sales stats, and it's not a boot camp trying to exhaust an athlete during exercise. Here's what athletes get:
Assessment first. We test before we train, so we know exactly where each athlete starts and can show where they end up, as we did with the Bombers.
A structured, progressive program. Strength, speed, agility, power, and body control, programmed to build week over week, not random workouts.
Small groups and real coaching. Athletes get eyes on their technique every rep. We teach the why behind the movement, not just the what.
Injury prevention built in. Stronger, more coordinated athletes are more resilient athletes. That keeps them on the field.
A private, focused environment. No distractions, no crowds. Just athletes who are there to get better.
SS&A is for athletes who are serious about improving. We vet every athlete for readiness before enrollment because results come only with commitment.
Bringing Your Team to SPI
The Bombers trained as a team, and that made a difference. Training alongside teammates builds accountability, chemistry, and a shared standard of work that carries onto the field. If you're a coach or team parent in Clearwater, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Safety Harbor, Largo, or anywhere in Pinellas County, we'd love to talk about building a program for your squad.
