Client Achievement: Discovering Her Strength & Power Following Cancer Fight

We are honored to showcase Strength & Performance Institute personal training client, Kris, and her amazing progress over the last year as she has been on a journey to rediscovering her strength, energy levels, and overall well being.

Starting a New Chapter Post Cancer Battle

Kris came to SPI one month after finishing her last chemotherapy session, battling ovarian cancer. While the remission results were a victory in and of itself, the cancer treatment left Kris at the beginning of a new journey. She wanted to take back control, build back her strength, and rediscover a new sense of self. Getting back into health and wellness after going through traumatic illness or injury is a challenge. In some ways you become stronger, now knowing what you’re capable of enduring. But, in other ways you are faced with having to completely rediscover yourself. Your mind and body are not the same as they once were.

Leveraging a Knowledgeable Personal Trainer For Guidance

When Kris first showed up to the Strength & Performance Institute even a 30-minute session was a challenge. SPI personal trainer Katie, understood all too well what working out after traumatic illness can be like. Having been through her own traumatic health journey, Katie knew how to meet Kris exactly where she was, with patience, empathy, and the right amount of encouragement needed to begin building back her strength, energy, and confidence in her abilities.

Commitment, Consistency, & Accountability

Kris’ strength and energy has developed ten folds since she first came to SPI. She has progressed from 30-minute small group training to working with Katie weekly during 60-minute private personal training sessions. Kris not only does weight lifting exercises for her strength training but Katie specially curates workouts focused on longevity and independence. During their personal training sessions she incorporates movements for mobility, improved balance, and increasing flexibility. All necessary for everyday functional activities and injury prevention in the long run.

We are so proud to see Kris and her transformation. She is a warrior and we can’t wait to watch her continue to rise!
